Abstract:
Video oral history of anthropologist Frederica de Laguna conducted by anthropologist Norman Markel. Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at Bryn Mawr College and former president of the American Anthropological Association, Dr. de Laguna discusses the events and people that were influential in her career. Video features conversations concerning her studies in Europe, in particular Denmark, France, and Greenland; her life as a student of Franz Boas at Columbia University; and the evolution of the field of anthropology. Video is from the "History of Anthropology" series produced by the University of Florida's Department of Anthropology in conjunction with the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research.
